IPSL ocean data are given on data points defined by four « vertices » whose latitudes and longitudes are given in NetCDF files as lat_vertices(4,lon,lat) and lon_vertices(4,lon,lat). The value of a variable at one data point represents the area of quadrilateral defined by the four vertices. A convertion to a regular grid is possible throught Climate Data Operators (
CDO), as an example:

Do the IPSL-CM5 decadal runs use volcanic background for the 2005 forecast?
Some CMIP5 groups have not included a volcanic background for future predictions to avoid discontinuity with the historical period. In the IPSL case, the published set of forecasts has a small radiative forcing in 2006 that appears as an « average volcanic forcing ». Since, we built a new set of forecast by removing this « average volcanic forcing » that will be published as soon as possible.

What is IPSL-CM5 cloud scheme and reference?
The IPSL-CM5 cloud scheme is described in Bony and Emanuet, 2001, is based on a bulk single moment. It computes cloud water and water mixing ratio in a single equation and then separates ice and liquid water content based on a linear change of temperature from 0°C (100% water) to -15°C (100% ice).
